The COVID-19 outbreak created ideal conditions for driving uptake of telemedicine visits in the United States. As the demand for remote visits surged, regulators and policymakers loosened some of the reimbursement, licensing, and compliance barriers that previously impeded widespread adoption. Yet telemedicine visits are just one element of what is possible using telehealth infrastructure. Healthcare has a chance not only to “digitize” patient-provider interactions, but also to create new ways of understanding, engaging, and caring for patient populations.
This eBook highlights telemedicine trends during the COVID-19 outbreak, and illuminates opportunities to extend and expand telehealth to support population health management and the investments needed to make that vision a reality.
